“Glee’s” Darren Criss Covers Billboard Magazine
To tide you over until the next episode of Glee (Counting the days already, eh?) we give you Darren Criss on the cover of the latest issue of Billboard Magazine, hitting newsstands nationwide Monday.
Posing for one seriously hot photo shoot and opening up in an exclusive interview, Criss, who plays Kurt’s boyfriend Blaine on the award-winning musical-comedy, chats up his career influences, the upcoming Glee summer concert tour, and three tracks from the show’s new album. Glee: The Music Presents The Warblers arrives everywhere music is sold on April 19, and to celebrate the release, Criss discusses how “Misery,” “Candles,” and “Raise Your Glass” (our fave) came to life on Glee.
Speaking of his love for musical theatre, Darren revealed that Disney was pretty much the reason for his decision to jump head-first into the performing industry.
“I remember seeing people’s reactions to Aladdin and thinking ‘Oh man, I want to be a genie when I grow up.’ I was like, ‘I want to do whatever that guy does. What does he do, Mum? He’s an actor? Okay, I want to do that.’”
Darren About Possibly Releasing a Solo Album with Sony Music: “We’re working on it—we’re really excited and it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I’m so thrilled that it’s something that can happen because of Glee, and like the Warblers album I hope I can do it justice and make it something that people can really enjoy.”
Getting Prepared for the Glee Summer Tour: “A year ago, I was so psyched that my first show in L.A. was at the Troubadour. Talk about so much for baby steps. It’s like, ‘Wait—Staples Center, are you kidding me?’ I was happy to drive around in a beat-up, crappy old van with my bandmates and just go to small clubs around the country.”
