A new adventure for “Old Christine.” Former Seinfeld star Julia Louis Dreyfus has been cast as a wisecracking female vice-president in the upcoming HBO pilot Veep, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Louis Dreyfus joins Tony Hale from Arrested Development and former child star Anna Chlumsky, who appeared in the 1991 coming of age drama My Girl. Both will play her staffers. The show was developed by comedian Armando Iannucci and is expected to be co-written with Simon Blackwell. Frank Rich, best known for his work with New York Magazine, will likely serve as an executive producer for the pilot. Chris Godsick will also come aboard as a producer.
The new pilot will mark Julia’s return to the tube after her cult series The New Adventures of Old Christine was cancelled by CBS last May.
