Whenever there was some drama, some sacrifice, suffering etc my mum, God bless her, would always say:
“Oh well, there’s another rose bush in heaven”
Meaning that because of the pain and suffering endured she would be rewarded by a rose bush when she got up there, mum thought that by the time she’d get there, there would be nothing but rose bushes the amount of trauma and suffering us kids put her through!
Strange isn’t it how so many people believe that life was meant to have a lot of pain in it, our suffering should be offered up to God as a sacrifice, it should earn us points, what do points make ……prizes!! Sorry Bruce Forsyth moment there …..
Sometimes it seems to me that some people, in fact I might even go as far as saying most people, have been so eager to accept this concept that now they feel bad about feeling good. It’s not normal after all is it, we’re supposed to feel bad, life is after all, crappy! It’s supposed to be that way, “no pain no gain” and all that. So there you go, feeling happy all the time is abnormal.
Except, of course, it isn’t ……..
Life was meant to be happy, I know it doesn’t feel that way sometimes and in fact a lot of people would tell you otherwise, on the whole, good, well meaning people will tell you the opposite that life is something to be endured, you’re born, you suffer, you endure, you struggle and then you die, that’s it, end of the line, nothing else. Some people believe in reincarnation and then you can do the whole thing again, yippedy do, won’t that be fun!
But you know, I’ve discovered that life wasn’t meant to be like that, I know that is the way it is for a lot of people but it wasn’t meant to be, and it doesn’t have to be. Like attracts like, so if you have miserable, sad, depressing thoughts, if you feel miserable, sad and depressed most of the time then you will be attracting those things to you, and then, once their there, if you dwell on them, moan about them, whinge about what a sorry life you have, you keep it in place, and you’ll give out more and more bad feeling vibes and so the Universe will give you more and more of what you want, i.e. crappy stuff, it has to, that is the law.
But you know you don’t have to be happy all of the time, in fact it could get a bit boring, it’s a bit like a battery, we all know that for a battery to work it has to have positive and negative energy, well as I see it, it’s the same with us. We need a certain amount of negative energy so that we can expand i.e. how would you know you were happy if you were never unhappy, how would you know how great it is to have something go right if you didn’t know how it feels when it goes wrong?
It’s like my boiler, I never take any notice of my boiler, its just there, taking up wall space in my kitchen. It’s not so much that I take it for granted I don’t even think about it, not for a second, until it goes on strike that is, until it decides it’s fed up being ignored and just stops. Then I pay it loads of attention, I beg and cajole, I even revert to brute force, all to no avail, no heating, no hot water, God do I miss my boiler!
And then …….. it starts to work again, I have never appreciated hot water and heating more, long may it continue. Do you see what I’m trying to say here, in a rather long winded way, it’s ok to think negative thoughts sometimes, it’s ok to have “bad” things happen to you sometimes, it’s ok for things to go wrong sometimes because then you appreciate the positive that much more. All I’m saying here is when things go wrong, when “bad” things happen, instead of dwelling on the negative turn it around, appreciate it for what it is, give thanks to it and then move on.
I don’t believe in fate, coincidence or luck but I do believe that our fears can affect our reality.
So as I see it you can spend your life doing everything in your power to feel good, to have fun, to enjoy this experience (is that really such a bad thing even if you think I’m talking out of my ass, is that really such a bad way to live your life? Answers on a postcard please) or you can carry on the way you are and just think of how many rose bushes you’ll have by the time you get up “there”
