The subject of gays in the military remains a hot topic of national debate — even after the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” — but it appears woman beaters are still welcomed with open arms.
Just ask that teacher dude that slugged Snooki.
Brad Ferro was a Long Island physical education instructor when a weekend excursion to The Garden State beach mecca of Seaside Heights, NJ turned his life upside down in the Summer of 2009. A drunken binge, MTV cameras, and a pint-sized loudmouth named Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi became immortalized in reality TV history when a heavily-intoxicated Brad violently punched Snooks right in the smacker during a dispute over drinks at a local bar. Amid controversy, footage of the assault debuted on Jersey Shore that December, sending ratings for the then little known series through the roof.
The rest, as they say, is history.
And so was Brad’s career.
The 25-year-old was charged with simple assault and pleaded guilty for his assault on Snooki. He was given a fine of $500 and successfully served six months probation. But getting rid of the stigma attached with decking a girl just half his size made Ferro virtually unemployable.
That’s where Uncle Sam comes in.
Ferro’s been hired and is currently being trained to be a Cavalry Scout, “the commander’s eyes and ears on the battlefield,” according to GoArmy.com.
“My son made them famous,” Brad’s outraged dad, Dan Ferro, fumes. “They made a lot of money off of him, and I think they owe him. This kid has never been in any trouble — ever. Thanks to MTV, he got fired. Every other option he would’ve had got cut off. He still has college loans. That was one of the first things he said, ‘What kind of woman is gonna want to have anything to do with me?’ I mean, you go on a couple of dates and then pump ‘Brad Ferro’ into Google . . . He wasn’t very sociable after that.”
