Aishwarya Rai has reportedly consented to play the protagonist in Madhur Bhandarkar's off-again, on-again project – Heroine, but has yet to sign the dotted line.
According to the Mumbai Mirror, Madhur, who has been keen to work with Aishwarya for some time, tweaked the the script to suit the 37-year-old former Miss World (1994).
The film is being produced by Siddarth Roy Kapoor / UTV.
It's reportedly inspired by the life of Marilyn Monroe. The protagonist is a leading Indian actress, Mahi Khanna, whose career is on the decline, but she doesn't want to fade into obscurity.
Madhur used Hollywood stars such as Eva Gardner, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Vivien Leigh as reference points while scripting the film.
Kareena was to play Mahi Khanna but opted out of the project because of creative differences with the director.
Madhur refused to confirm Aishwarya's coming on board when quizzed by the Mumbai Mirror.
"Nothing is finalised. I have taken a break after Dil To Baccha Hai Ji as I need some time off," he said.
