Sonakshi Sinha says when she and Kamal Haasan face the camera together in their new film, she will feel like an equal, not an awning newcomer paired with a superstar 33 years her senior.
Sonakshi, 23, plays wife of Kamal Haasan, 56, in the yet to be titled film directed by Tamil-Telugu director Selvaraghavan.
"Once you are in front of the camera, your age should not matter. I never felt like a child while working with Salman Khan in Dabangg and now with Akshay Kumar in Joker. I will be respectful but an equal on the sets with Mr. Kamal Haasan," says the gutsy, not to mention beautiful, lass.
Sonakshi also rubbished reports that the film is psychological thriller inspired by Hannibal (2001).
"I don't know where the speculation started from. No, this film is a complete original. When I heard the script, I was blown away. I'd be very stupid to turn it down, just because the hero, a legend in his lifetime, is much older than me.," says Sonakshi.
Sonakshi's professionalism isn't a facade, it runs to the core. She knows she won't Kamal's equal without putting in a lot of hard work. To act as his wife on screen, she has to step up her off screen comfort level with the star first.
"It's Kamalji I would like to get to know. I need to establish a comfort level with him. Of course, there's a lot of initial nervousness. Naturally. Kamalji is legendary. Acting with him is difficult enough. But to play his wife, I need a lot more guts," says Sonakshi.
"But then I've a legend at home," reminds Sonakshi, alluding to her father Shatrughan Sinha.
Prepping for her role, Sonakshi plans to watch the film Hey Ram (2000) in which Kamal and Vasundhraa Das, his 25 year junior, were paired in it as husband and wife, though her onscreen relationship with Kamal in the upcoming film differs.
Charged, yes, awed, no would sum up how Sonakshi feels about her new project.
"It's a film that pushes the envelope. I want to do roles that take me ahead as an actor. I am not here to do routine stuff," she says.
