Lindsay Lohan met her father, Michael Lohan, for several hours on Sunday, November 7, at the Betty Ford clinic, where she is undergoing rehab.
A source close to Lindsay told Radar Online that the meeting was at the invitation of Lindsay.
Lindsay's mother, Dina was in New York at that time, preparing to appear on NBC's Today Show.
During the meeting, Michael and Lindsay went shopping at a local Palm Desert mall, where they were seen entering a jewelry store.
It was the first time Lindsay and Michael interacted with each other as daughter and father since August 2009, when Michael helped Lindsay move into a new apartment after her Hollywood home was burgled.
According to Radar Online sources, Lindsay and Michael will undergo joint therapy to help doctors get to the cause of bad blood between them.
Lindsay has often blamed her father for her drug and other problems, saying he wasn't there for her when she needed him most.
In the 1980's Michael was sentenced to four years in prison for security fraud. In 2005, he went back to jail for "aggravated unlicensed driving" and attempted assault.
Lindsay has often expressed her exasperation at Michael's proclivity to talk about her with the media.
Following the meeting on Sunday, Michael declined to comment on it telling Radar Online, "I have pledged not to comment about anything relating to my daughter."
"However, what I will say is that I am an incredibly proud father tonight. My daughter is progressing extraordinarily well," he added.
