Valerie Bertinelli began her New Year with wedding vows.
In a holiday week that saw the announcements of several celebrity engagements, the former seventies sitcom star took the ultimate plunge, marrying financial planner and longtime beau Tom Vitale at their home in Malibu New Year’s Day.
“We’re so happy!” Berinelli told PEOPLE after Saturday’s nups.
Approximately 100 guests attended the afternoon ceremony, including Bertinelli’s former husband of more than 20 years, rocker Eddie Van Halen, and their son Wolfgang, 19.
Bertinelli and Vitale dated for seven years before announcing their engagement last March.
“We’d talked about getting married, but I was still shocked. It was sweet when he asked me, because he was so scared. I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?’” the Hot in Cleveland actress told AARP: The Magazine at the time.
The week after Christmas witnessed a series of celeb couplings — including the engagements of actress Reese Witherspoon to talent agent Jim Toth, singer LeAnn Rimes to actor Eddie Cibrian, actress Natalie Portman to dancer Benjamin Millepied, and Playboy founder Hugh Hefner to barely-legal Bunny Crystal Harris. Singer Shania Twain also tied the knot on New Year’s Day.
