Angelina Jolie Confirms David Fincher May Direct Her in Cleopatra 3-D

Angelina Jolie Confirms

Angelina Jolie has confirmed that talks are underway with David Fincher to direct her in a planned 3-D retelling of Cleopatra.

Jolie was speaking to MTV News at the 64th Cannes Film Festival where she is promoting her animation film Kung Fu Panda 2.

The Cleopatra biopic, which is backed by Sony Pictures, will be based on Stacy Schiff's book, Cleopatra: A Life, which tells the story from the Egyptian queen's perspective, portraying her not just as a seductress, but also as a shrewd politician, strategist and warrior.

To begin with, James Cameron was considered the front runner to direct the film. Later, Paul Greengrass's name came up.

Reports that Fincher may direct the film first appeared in March.

Asked if she could be teaming up with Fincher, Jolie told MTV News, "Yes, we just don't know. It's all very early. Fincher's been an old friend, so we've always been looking for something to do."

If Fincher signs on, he will be directing Jolie for the first time.

Jolie also talked about a film that she is producing focusing on the political and personal relationship between Winston Churchill and Theodore Roosevelt.

Earlier this month, Anthony Hopkins told MTV News that he has been attached to the project to play Winston Churchill.

Asked if there was a possibility of her acting in the film, Jolie said, "Right now, I'm just producing it. Just want to see it get done."

She also confirmed that no one had been picked to play Roosevelt as yet.
