Love me do! Beatles star Paul McCartney is poised for a third trip down the aisle.
The 68-year-old music legend is engaged to marry Nancy Shevell, a 51-year-old American businesswoman and vice-president of a family-owned transportation conglomerate. The pair stepped out for the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday and Paul popped the question a few hours later, nearly four years after they first met in The Hamptons during the summer of 2007.
“Nancy and Paul are getting married. Ring and all – very exciting,” a loose-lipped informant gushed to PEOPLE on Friday.
The wedding will be the “Drive My Car” hitmaker’s third. He was married to Linda McCartney from 1969 until her death from breast cancer in 1998. They had five children; Heather, 48, Mary, 41, Stella, 39, James, 33. His turbulent six-year marriage to British star Heather Mills ended in 2008. The one-legged Mills walked away with a healthy chunk of McCartney’s fortune. The exes share a seven-year-old daughter, Beatrice. Nancy was previously married to Bruce Blakeman.
“They have the right chemistry. They’re both cool, chilled out and optimistic. The couple have remained tight-lipped about their relationship, although in December last year it was said they were making secret preparations to marry,” another friend of the couple chimed in. “Paul and Nancy’s relationship is rock solid and there’s no mad hurry for a wedding. Neither of them want a big deal made out of it. It’s almost certainly going to be done very discreetly over in the US and Paul would ideally like to do it without any publicity beforehand.”
