Singer Katy Perry married comedian Russell Brand married at the Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary in North Rajasthan, India, in a traditional Hindu ceremony on Saturday, October 23.
According to People magazine, the wedding took place at the Aman-i-Khas resort in the sanctuary.
Wedding festivities leading up to the marriage included song and dance performances, shopping and safaris.
There was a Bollywood themed party on Friday during which Brand, 35, wore a Kurta Pyjama and Perry, 25, a red bridal sari.
Traditional Hindu weddings take place at the bride's place. They start with the arrival of the groom on a white mare, accompanied by the 'Barat' comprising of the groom relatives and a wedding band that these days belts out Bollywood tunes!
In grander, more "royal," weddings the white mare is often replaced by an elephant.
According to People magazine, there were two elephants at the wedding. It is not clear if the second elephant was a stand in, or Katy too rode an elephant!
A Christian minister was also present to solemnize the wedding according to traditional Christian rites.
A statement released by the couple said they "were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. Brand on Saturday, October 23," the couple said in a statement. "The very private and spiritual ceremony, attended by the couples' closest family and friends was performed by a Christian minister and longtime friend of the Hudson Family. The backdrop was the inspirational and majestic countryside of Northern India."
Rihanna is reported to have been a no show at the wedding.
