Katy Perry and Russell Brand marry

Katy Perry and Russell Brand got married Saturday in a traditional Indian ceremony, UsMagazine.com has learned. They exchanged vows in front of 80 or so guests at the luxury Aman-i-Khas resort near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary in Rajasthan (the same spot where Brand, 35, proposed to Perry – who turns 26 Monday – this past December). The new Us Weekly reports that Brand planned to ride into the ceremony on a horse, flanked by camels and elephants. Perry, who was expected to wear Elie Saab, was also planning to have a rotating bridal wardrobe from designers Zuhair Murad and Donna Mizani, Us reports. One thing’s certain: Perry fully embraced Indian tradition for the ceremony. Days before tying the knot, she was spotted wearing a traditional Indian bridal nose ring. (It is worn by brides throughout the wedding day, with the groom removing it on the wedding night.)
The South Asian country holds a special place in their hearts. They’re going back to the place where their relationship was sealed with a ring. The “I Kissed A Girl” singer and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” star have been dating since September 2009, with Russell proposing on New Year’s day 2010 while on holiday in Jaipur, India. And the eccentric couple is taking the Indian wedding traditions very seriously. Katy was spotted sporting an Indian bridal nose ring also known as a ‘nath,’ which brides wear on the wedding day, with the groom removing the jewelry on the wedding night. Also in keeping with ceremonial culture, Russell had his hands painted with henna. Traditionally at weddings in India, both the bride and groom’s hands are painted with henna.Perry also had henna designs applied on her palms and hands, the AP reports. Security has been tight at the resort — which has been lit with lamps and colorful lights — and other nearby hotels where guests and the couple are staying for the six-day wedding celebration. Despite the lavish ceremony, Brand recently told fans at a New York Times “TimesTalks” Q&A in NYC: “We just love each other and we want to get married in front of our friends and family and keep it very normal. It ain’t about selling the pictures, it ain’t about doing no pre-nup, it’s just a normal thing. “I’m trying to preserve it, to keep it a beautiful thing,” explained Brand, who first met Perry last year on the set of his comedy, Get Him to the Greek, in which Perry had a cameo that was cut. “I think people get the wrong idea on how we want the wedding to play out. Love between two people is the most spectacular, yet ordinary thing in the world.” “They make each other laugh,” a pal tells Us of the newlyweds. “They have a chill chemistry.” During his Times talk, he told fans, “The relationship is very important to me. It means growing up. Love between two people is the most spectacular, but ordinary, thing in the world.”
