Miley Cyrus' parents - Billy Ray and Tish - filed for divorce in Tennessee on Wednesday citing irreconcilable difference.
The couple has been married for 17 years and has five children including Miley.
In a statement to People magazine the couple said:
"As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family. We are trying to work through some personal matters. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers."
According to documents obtained by TMZ, Billy Ray filed for divorce. He is seeking shared custody of the couple's three minor children together, a court approved parenting plan, and "equitable distribution of the marital estate."
