Burt Reynolds Loni Anderson Return To TV In New Sitcom?

Will a new TV sitcom reunite Hollywood exes Burt Reynolds and Loni Anderson 15 years after their romance fizzled?

The National Enquirer (Consider the Source!) cites snitches who say Burt and Loni are on tap to star as a pair of cantankerous senior citizens living in a retirement home in a proposed comedy written by All in the Family creator. Lear is already pitching the as-yet-untitled show for the Fall 2011 season, insiders say.

Tipsters tell the tabloid that Reynolds, 74, hopes the show will result in a Betty White-esque career resurgence following his recent lifesaving heart surgery. Loni — who was a small screen hit on TV’s WKRP in Cincinnati in the ’80s — only agreed to set aside her differences with Burt at the urging of their son Quinton, 22.

“Burt jumped at the chance to make a TV comeback, but he knew that without Loni, the show wouldn’t work,” says a snoop. “When Burt and Loni talked, it was awkward at first, but she was touched when she realized how much it could mean to Burt… She realized the show would put him back on the Hollywood map.”

Reynolds previously starred as a football coach on the ’90s sitcom Evening Shade, while Loni last appeared on the tube alongside John O’Hurley in the ill-fated UPN comedy The Mullets.
