Candice Bergen Penning Second Memoir

Actress and former model Candice Bergen is publishing a second memoir, 26 years after her first hit the bestsellers list, publishers Simon & Schuster announced on Thursday.

The effort will serve as a follow-up to Bergen’s original autobiography, Knock Wood, which predated the success of her smash ’80s/’90s series Murphy Brown.

“Some authors are worth waiting for, even if you have to wait for two decades, and Candice Bergen is one of them,” Simon and Schuster executive vice-president Jonathan Karp said in a statement.

Candy — as the star is affectionately known — won five Emmys for her performance on Murphy Brown, which aired for 10 seasons. She last starred on the spinoff law drama Boston Legal, which wrapped its four-year run in 2008. Bergen, 64, career began on Groucho Marx’s You Bet Your Life quiz show at age eleven, and has enjoyed roles in the recent films The Romantics, Bride Wars, Sex and the City, and The Women.

“Candy has proven with her first book she is a natural story teller — funny and honest on the page. I look forward to publishing the second part of her rich life story,” Priscilla Painton, Simon & Schuster’s executive editor, chimed.

The currently-untitled book will cover Bergen’s time on the acclaimed show, as well as the death of her husband, director Louis Malle.

Bergen’s new memoir will be published in 2012.
