Rani Mukerji: Durga Puja Fierce Posted on Thursday, October 14, 2010 (EST) Rani Mukerji took a page out of Ekta Kapoor's style book looking fierce in

Rani Mukerji took a page out of Ekta Kapoor's style book looking fierce in a Sabyasachi sari at the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja at Santacruz, Mumbai on Wednesday, October 13.

Rani's white sari had red and black border with beaded detail. She wore a black sleeveless blouse.

The 32-year-old had styled her glossy long hair in vertical waves. She wore a large red bindi and bronze lipstick; her eyes were thickly lined with kajal.

Explaining the red and white color of her sari, Rani said though her mother knows the tradition behind it.

But "to me, it symbolises Devi Durga's power, courage and strength. Every Bengali woman like me would like to emulate the Goddess's virtues," Rani told IBNLive.

Rani was accompanied to the event by her mother, Krishna, and brother, Raja. Her father could not join them as he is not in good health.

While Rani and her mother greeted people and posed for photogs, brother Raja tried his hand on cymbals, accompanied by Bappa Lahiri and Anurag Basu on the drums.

Diya Mirza also marked her presence at the pandal.

"Durga Pujo was FABULOUS at the Mukherjee's pandal! Catapulted straight back to my childhood...Pujo is such a wonderful time of togetherness." she tweeted on October 14.

Pujo, not Puja? Why Diyo Mirzo?

Rani and her family have supported this durga pandal for the past 63 years, but the actress says things have changed dramatically since she became a public figure; people throng to the pujo puja to see her and take her photographs.
