Siddharth Anand is not wasting any time in starting his next film, an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's 2009 bestseller 2 States, headlining Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra.
The Anjaana Anjaani director tells Mumbai Mirror:
"Yes I am making a film on the novel 2 States, which is a contemporary comedy and has been a huge success. It is a good departure for me, since the film will be made in India. My other four films were made using foreign locations."
Sajid Nadiadwala will produce the film that will go on the floors early next year.
Filming will take place at locations in Delhi, Ahmadabad and Goa, places specific to the story.
This will be Saif's next project after he wraps filming for his home production Agent Vinod.
Anand's fifth film will be his third with Saif, after Salaam Namastey (2005) and Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007); and his second with Sajid Nadiadwala (Anjaana Anjaani, 2010).
2 States is the story of Punjabi boy, Krish, and Tamil girl, Ananya, who meet at IIM Ahmadabad. They fall in love and want to marry, but their parents are opposed to the idea. The story recounts the couple's efforts to carry their parents along, and the eventual success of the efforts.
The plot is inspired by Bhagat's own life - he is from Delhi and his wife, Anusha, from Tamil Nadu - and is narrated as a first person account.
The tag line of the novel is - The story of my marriage.
