Jennifer Lopez is expected to be unveiled (along with Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler) as one of two new judges joining the 10th season of the nation’s most-watched TV talent show, American Idol. But Jenny from the Block could be in line for a blast from the past in the former of Ex-Husband No. 1.
Ojani Noa, a former waiter from Cuba who became Jennifer’s first husband when they married in 1997, is planning to audition when the show swings into Los Angeles on Wednesday. He’ll serenade the rumoured judge her with one of her own songs.
“Ojani Noa will be in line at the Forum on September 22 to try out for American Idol in front of his ex-wife. He escaped Cuba and married Jennifer Lopez, now he wants to be the American Idol. Of course he will sing a Jennifer Lopez song,” the pop hopeful’s manager, Ed Meyer, said this week.
But he’ll have to make it past security first. After learning of Ojani’s plans to audition for Idol, the diva demanded that Noa be placed on the show’s “Keep Out List.” Lopez has an acrimonious relationship with her former flame — which includes court battles over a tell-all and a 13-year-old honeymoon sex tape.
A well-placed Lopez insider tells The Chicago Sun-Times: “According to key Fox and Idol sources, Lopez has provided them with all kinds of information about her very estranged ex-hubby — including photos, detailed descriptions and even some recordings of him singing. As it turns out, Noa does have a very good voice, reportedly good enough to qualify for the initial rounds of American Idol auditions. ‘He can certainly sing, that’s for sure, but given his history with Lopez, he’s not getting a showcase on American Idol.”’
“FOX and Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe have made their intentions clear to the media that Fox intends to block Ojani Noa’s audition for American Idol, and to sue if Ojani Noa does show up to audition for American Idol,” a source close to Noa told the press this week. “Our response is that the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) and Congress should investigate whether American Idol is truly a real game show,or just another phony game show.”
Meyer insists FOX and Idol producers can’t ban the former server from the show simply because he’s too old.
“In the past, the first two episodes of each season of American Idol are always phony, as they let anyone of any age audition to get viewership numbers – for example the 62-year-old Pants on the Ground guy (Larry Platt).”
