Britney Spears Tribute Was Most-Watched “Glee” Episode Ever

Britneymania hit McKinley High in a big way on Tuesday night’s edition of Glee — and it appears Gleeks and pop stans alike tuned in to make the show’s Britney Spears Tribute the most-watched broadcast of Glee’s

Approximately 13.3 million viewers tuned to watch the singing/dancing cast give their rendition of Brit’s hits — including “Toxic,” “Me Against the Music,” “I’m a Slave 4 U,” “Stronger,” and Spears’ 1998 breakout single “…Baby One More Time” — The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The episode opened with Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) trying to prevent his singing group from channeling the sexy pop icon, instead encouraging them to sing adult contemporary music at a McKinley High School Homecoming assembly. Despite Mr. Schuester’s attempts, New Directions take to the stage with a sexy cabaret-style of “Toxic” with Morrison himself joining in. Series star Heather Morris paid tribute to Brit’s performance of “I’m a Slave 4 U” at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards — complete with a live snake.

The singing superstar tuned into last night’s show –in which she had a brief cameo role — and kept fans up-to-date in a series of posts to her Twitter page before thanking Glee producers for honoring her contributions to the recording industry.

“Getting ready to watch GLEE! I’ll be Tweeting along with the episode… Awww Heather Morris is sooo cute! Brittany S Pearce. Ha! She was so fun to work with and was really sweet in person. John Stamos is still hot! He looks the same as he did on Full House…” Spears wrote.

“Watching …Baby One More Time brings back so many memories! Feels like yesterday… I love this version of Stronger. Artie did a great job. The Glee version of Toxic is amazing! I loved it! Thank you guys SO much for making this happen!”
