Paris Hilton Banned From Japan Why

Japan Tells Hilton: “You’re Not on the List!” Socialite Paris Hilton has left Japan after being denied entrance to the country a day after pleading guilty to cocaine possession in Las Vegas.

“I’m going back home, and I look forward to coming back to Japan in the future,” a smiling Paris told reporters before heading back to The States on her private jet. “I’m really tired,” she said from behind her black baseball cap and a navy sweat suit.

In August, the heiress to the Hilton Hotels fortune was arrested in Las Vegas in August after a small package containing .08 grams of cocaine was found in her handbag following a traffic stop. On Monday, she was sentenced to a year’s probation and handed a $2,000 fine and 200 hours of community service after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor offenses.

Japan generally does not allow citizens of other nations who are on probation entry to the country.

On Tuesday, the heiress, 29, flew out to Tokyo to honor business commitments she’d made to promote something else that she’s releasing off the back of being Rick Hilton’s daughter, but airport officials wouldn’t let her in the country because anyone with a suspended jail term needs to have “special reason” to enter. Upon her arrival in Asia, Hilton was detained at Tokyo’s Narita Airport while officials decided whether to admit her after her misdemeanour drug conviction. She stayed at an airport hotel overnight and left Tokyo early Wednesday after immigration officials resumed their questioning of her.

Her early departure means that Paris will not be able to join sister Nicky at a Wednesday news conference in Tokyo to promote the Fall/Winter collections of her fashion and fragrance lines. Paris also abruptly cancelled planned appearances in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Jakarta, Indonesia.

Her publicist, Dawn Miller, says Hilton plans to make the trips at a later date.

“Paris is very disappointed and fought hard to keep her business commitments and see her fans, but she is forced to postpone her commitments in Asia. Paris understands and respects the rules and laws of the immigration authorities in Japan and fully wishes to cooperate with them.”

Just before taking off, Paris Tweeted a message of apology to her fans in the Far East.

“About to take off. Going home now. So disappointed to miss my fans in Asia. I promise to come back soon. I love you all! Love Paris xoxo…”

Returning to Japan may not be as easy as “I’ll Be Back” for Paris, who has been detained at least three times in the past year on drug charges. The Rolling Stones struggled for years to gain entry to the country but were eventually allowed in despite its members’ drug convictions. In Jan. 1980, former Beatles member Paul McCartney was arrested for marijuana possession upon arrival at Narita and promptly deported.
