Pop sensation Lady Gaga is mourning the death of her paternal grandfather, Joseph Germanotta.
The World War II veteran passed away on Friday, Sept. 24 following a lengthy battle against Parkinson’s Disease.
He was 88.
The international pop sensation had visited her grandfather in a the Lincoln Park, New Jersey nursing home where he’d been living only two days before. Clad in a black suit, diamond-studded choker and dominatrix heels, Gaga
comforted by boyfriend Luc Carl as she exited the facility after spending some time with her Gramps.
Gaga was extraordinarily close to her grandpa and dedicated the song “Speechless” to him at a concert in Nottingham, England last summer.
“I’m really close with my grandpa and he’s really sick and he’s in the States and my dad’s with him. So I was, like, crying all day, really sad. So I thought I would be honest and tell you that’s what’s going on,” she told revellers. “So it’s been one of those tough things that my grandpa’s too old to come to my show, but I suppose if we sing loud enough, he’ll be able to hear us. So this one’s for you grandpa.”
Germanotta is survived by his wife of 57 years, Angeline, his son Jospeh and daughter-in-law Cynthia, and granddaughters – Gaga and her sister Natali, 18.
