Ranbir received a warm hug from Anil Kapoor on arrival. Ranbir and Priyanka sat next to Anil Kapoor, all three looking intense during the conference.
The appeal for communal harmony was made in the context of the Babri Masjid / Ramjanmabhoomi land title dispute, a court ruling on which was earlier expected on September 24.
It was feared the ruling may lead to communal tensions. The release of Anjaana Anjaani, headlining Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor, was postponed from September 24 to October 1 to ensure box office collections were not affected as a result of any communal unrest.
Ironically, the court ruling has since been held back for at least a week. At the event yesterday, Bollywood celebrities gave statements to media appealing for peace and order whatever may be the outcome of the verdict. Additional Police Commissioner (Mumbai-West) Amitabh Gupte thanked the film industry for their support. "On behalf of the Mumbai police, I am thankful to the film industry as they have come forward for this cause. On behalf of the Mumbai police, I would request Maharashtra and the rest of India to maintain the law and order after the verdict," said Gupte at the presser.
