Now we can add Russell Brand to the list of celebs who have gone bonkers on the paps in the past few days.
Brand was taken into custody by police at Los Angeles International Airport (the scene of many a crime against snappers) after allegedly attacking a pushy paparazzon during an altercation on Friday.
The 35-year-old comedian was going through security with his pop star companion — fiancee Katy Perry — when he allegedly began pushing and striking paparazzi, TMZ reports. A photographer who was one of the alleged victims made a citizen’s arrest. Brand was then arrested by Los Angeles Police, who have charged the Arthur star with battery.
“About 1:50 PM… Los Angeles Airport Police responded to Terminal 5 to a report of a battery involving a celebrity and a commercial photographer (paparazzi),” read a statement released by a rep from the LAX Police. “The victim involved placed the suspect (Russell Brand) under private person’s arrest,” the statement continued. “Airport Police took the suspect into custody for Penal Code Section 242 – battery. He will be booked at the LAPD Pacific Division station.”
Katy hit her Twitter page this evening to issue a statement in defense of her beau. The “California Gurls” hitmaker insists Russ was just defending her honor when he knocked the photographer’s block off.
