Sonam Kapoor in The Italian Job Remake

The twists and turns in the casting of The Italian Job Remake have all the strapping of a thriller, the latest being that Sonam Kapoor is back in the ensemble cast.

The film's director duo, Abbas-Mustan, had offered Sonam the female lead role and she had been ready to accept.

She backtracked when Pankaj Kapoor, the director of her under production film Mausam, gently reminded her that her dates for November, when The Italian Job Remake is scheduled to start production, were locked for Mausam.

Sonam's association with the film should have ended there and then, but didn't, because her father, who is also her de facto manager, decided to intervene.

Perhaps concerned by the way Sonam's films are bombing at the box office and fearful that film offers to her may dry up, Anil put in a word with Pankaj Kapoor.

A source close to the film now tells the Mumbai Mirror that Sonam is "very much doing the film. One doesn't know what transpired behind the scenes, but Sonam is back on board."

Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone were reportedly considered as female leads, but both turned the film down.

Abbas-Mustan don't seem to be having much luck locking in the female lead, but finalizing the male cast was a breeze. It includes Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Omi Vaidya and Neil Nitin Mukesh.

The film will have only one female lead.

Sonam, who recently returned from vacation in New York with sister Rhea Kapoor, is currently filming for Mausam in Mumbai.
