Nicole Kidman Broadway Comeback “Sweet Bird of Youth”

It’s back to Broadway for Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman.

After a 12-year absence, the star will return to The Great White Way in 2011 to star in a revival of Tennessee Williams’ Sweet Bird of Youth, The New York Post reported on Friday. Kidman has been cast as Alexandra Del Lago, “an aging, drunken and sexually voracious movie star.” No actor has yet been named to play the male lead — sex worker Chance Wayne — a role originated on Broadway by the late Paul Newman in 1959.

The newest incarnation of the play will be produced by Scott Rudin and directed by David Cromer.

Kidman last appeared on Broadway in David Hare’s The Blue Room, which ran from 1998 to 1999 at The Cort Theatre.
