Oscar winners Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz are four-and-a-half months pregnant with their first child together, a spokesperson for the notoriously-secretive couple has confirmed.
The Rumor Mill kicked into overdrive this week with whispers about whether or not Penelope is hosting an occupied womb after the 36-year-old was photographed with what appeared to be a baby bump while shooting scenes for Disney’s swashbuckling sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in Hawaii on Monday. Penelope — who won an Academy Award for her supporting role in Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona in 2009 — has been famously protective about her private life, only agreeing to marry Javier, 41, in a secret ceremony in the Bahamas, which took place last July. However, on Tuesday, the Spanish actress released a statement through her rep confirming that she and Bardem are expecting.
“Penelope Cruz is four-and-a-half months pregnant. At the moment she is on her way to London where the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is almost finished,” the agent said in a short statement.
The couple first got to know each other during the filming of Penelope’s first film, 1992’s Jamon, Jamon. They worked together again when Allen cast both in Vicky. They’ve been together ever since.
Cruz is due early next year.
